A ten year IBD advice line audit was published in GIN in 2026- Following this our team initiated changes to our IBD advice line service which is managed and staffed by the CNS team. The changes included improved and updated patient information and better access for patients. This presentation will discuss the original audit, the changes to the information and the outcome of implementing these changes.

The RCN Gastro intestinal Forum committee are delighted to present headlines of the projects being undertaken by the group - pioneering innovations in gastro nursing to support members and the gastro nursing work force.

Emotional distress is common after stoma surgery. Whilst often transitory, for some individuals distress can persist or worsen, engendering anxiety and depression. Early identification and management of distress is key. There is scope to support self-management of stoma-related distress, but a one-size-fits-all approach is not suitable. I will firstly present a co-produced digital resource to support self-management of distress experienced by young adults with IBD who have stoma surgery. I will then discuss community-based approaches to addressing the mental health needs of people with a stoma from underserved groups who face health inequity and barriers to accessing services.

Gastrointestinal (GI) nursing and endoscopy are dynamic, specialist fields that play a vital role in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of digestive health conditions. Despite growing workforce demands, these career pathways often receive limited exposure within undergraduate nursing programmes. This session explores strategies to enhance awareness, engagement, and career interest in GI nursing and endoscopy among undergraduate nursing students. Drawing on educational experiences, student feedback, and examples of successful practice learning initiatives, it highlights innovative approaches including clinical placements, simulation, mentorship, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Recommendations will be offered to help inspire the next generation of GI nursing professionals.
